Hope
that wherever you are, life's treating you well, you're not working too hard,
and have holidays coming up soon.
I've finished my
univeristy course learning various things about music and sound techniques and
technology, and I'm looking forward to using what I've learnt to work on some
new recordings of my songs over the next couple of months, particularly the
newer ones that you won't have heard unless you've seen my live shows.
Shows
Two
shows this week at West End in Brisbane.
- short and
sweet show at the Music Kafe on Wednesday night this week, at their Open Mic
Night.
-
longer show on Saturday night at Blackstar Coffee, including airing the new
song "Pillow" for the first time.
See show listings below for all
gig details.
Don't
forget to let me know if you think there is an awesome Brisbane venue that
supports live, original music that I should consider playing.
New song - "Pillow"
I'm happy to
report that I have succeeded in writing another happy song (which I usually have
to be tied down to a piece of furniture for a considerable time and deprived of
food, or bribed with some serious dark chocolate to write). The very small
handful of people who have heard it so far have said:
- "no, it's not twee at
all. It's sincere rather than vomitty sweet."
- "it reminds me
of some chic singer from a few years ago. You know, Suzanne Vega, sort of like
the stuff she wrote in her 'Tom's Diner' era."
It
will be aired for the first time at the Saturday night Blackstar show. I'm
looking forward to seeing what you think.
What's your favourite song?
Do
you like one of my songs much more than the rest? Are you dying to hear me do a
song about frogs? Do you think my music is suffering due to a severe shortage in
heavy metal influences? Whatever your feedback, if you have some, I'd be really
keen to hear it. It's really helpful and will help me to understand what you
might like more of in future.
